This is Bella
I would like to take this opportunity to formally introduce you all to Bella, our family beagle.

Bella is a purebred, American Kennel Club (AKC) registered beagle. Her official AKC name is actually GEM's Bella Rina (kinda like ballerina, get it?). She is a 13" beagle (they also come in a 15" variety) and has tricolor markings (beagles also come as red & whites, "blueticks" and "lemons"). There were only two pups in Bella's litter, and her brother unfortunately died within hours of birth. Luckily, there were other puppies at the kennel for Bella to grow up with, and she is very social. Bella joined Bella's Mom and me about about a year and a half ago, when she was 12 weeks old. We had lost a pregnancy quite far along, and were recovering from the trauma of it all. Bella helped save our mental health.

Top Ten Factoids about Bella:

1) She was born in a small town near Eugene, Oregon at GEM Beagles.
2) Bella claims that her real name is "Lady Jean Casilbury" and that she is actually not from Oregon, but is one of the Queen of England's Royal Beagles, well-known throughout all of Nottingham Forest as a champion fox hunting hound. (I made this all up, she's really from Oregon).
3) Bella's father "PD" was the Best of Breed at the 2004 Wesminister Kennel Club Dog Show and the 2004 National Beagle Club Best of Breed (really!).
4) Bella has eaten two of her mom's cell phones. The cell phone insurance company has cancelled our policy because of her. Bella has also eaten one pair of Adidas and one pair of Nikes.
5) Bella has a theme song, Tiny Dancer, by Elton John. "Bella Rina, you must have seen her. Dancin' in the sand..."
6) Bella enjoys eating diapers, preferably used diapers. I can vouch for the fact that diapers are not digestible, and emerge from the dog's digestive tract unchanged.
7) Bella has eaten a tube of Desitin. There is such thing as Animal Poison Control. They charge $55 for a consultation, and are very helpful. They said beagles eat everything, and they never die from anything they ingest, no matter how toxic. Other breeds apparently do.
8) Bella has a very precise biological clock. She wakes up at precisely 7 AM, and expects to be fed at precisely 8 AM. Dinner must be served at precisely 6 PM.
9) Sometimes Bella gets gas. Bad gas.
10) When our baby son got his last set of vaccination shots at the pediatrician's office, the only thing that made him stop crying was a picture of Bella.

Bella really is our first child, and we love her very much. Despite the fact that she drives us crazy at times, she enriches our lives in many ways. She is a loving, loyal pain in the ass, but we could never imagine how things would be without her. She's glad to meet you!

Comments:
Wanderer, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your baby. How lovely that Bella was there to help you through your grief. Many people do not understand the love that a dog can bring into your life. Bella is beautiful. I am pleased to meet her!

Wanderer, you're post jogged my memory and inspired me to write about a little beagle that I once crossed paths with, if you would like to read my post. Thanks!

Cruisin' Mom - glad Bella could jog your memory and bring back your little beagle! Have read your wonderful post and will comment later.

Mirty - Bella believes the following:

1) squirrels - chase and bark!
2) Cats - enemy of all that is good. See details below.
3) Tummy rub! - (Or vigorous scratching behind the ears).

There is a neighborhood cat who drives Bella absolutely bonkers! The cat sits directly in front of our main living room window and taunts Bella. Bella barks, moans and cries - "Lemme at her, lemme at her." It's hilarious to watch!

Would Bella perhaps be interested in a younger man... Max is 7 months old now...and is looking for a nice b--ch to hang out with. His mom has told him that L.A. is a great place and he's willing to travel there for a look-see and a possible relocation.

I think that "Max and Bella" has a beautiful ring to it...you know, like something out of the Old Country.

I hope Bella didn't register with JDogDate yet...'cause Max is interested.

Thanks for sharing your doggie "tails."

I'm so sorry to learn of Bella's Mom's pregnancy loss; it's such a personal thing that everyone handles and copes with differently. I can only imagine how difficult it was for you both as well as your families, on all levels. Thank G-d you had Bella, and then a baby brother for her.

Our neighbor had a beagle that was almost 20 years old and would get up every morning at 6:30. Of course when we changes the clocks back, she got up at 5:30 am. We live in a townhouse, so you can see how much fun that was, especially since her parents slept right through her howling.

She eventually moved and we said farewell to the beagle, only to have the next neighbor arrive with a new dog...another beagle. Thankfully this one has a more sensible, neighbor friendly biological clock. : )

S.T.: funny, I think we had that same beagle living next to us a few years ago. The dog would howl at all hours of the day and night. (of course, if you were locked in a little cement area that's for trash cans, you'd howl too)It was so unfair to the poor little beagle.

Wanderer: Where's movie night?

torontopearl - LOL about Max and Bella having a nice, Old Country ring to it! They sound like they should be living in a nursing home... Bella wants to know if Max likes long walks in the park and also if he comes from royalty like she does.

Sweettooth - beagles actually have a reputation for barking (or yowling or baying as it is known). Its part of their hunting roots always needing to know where the other dogs in the pack are. Luckily Bella doesn't yowl much, and our neighbors say they rarely hear her.

Cruisin' - well the movie this week was going to be The Frisco Kid but you had to go and jump the gun... I came up with something very different!

I love dogs and she is a beauty! She and your son will grow up side by side and have a special bond.

Awwww. Come 'here, Bella. Wudgie wudgie wudgie [scratch scratch scratch] gooooood girl!
