Saturday Night At The Movies
This week's film is in my opinion the greatest Vietnam movie ever made. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, the cinematography is phenomenal, and the sniper scene at the end is one of the most gripping, suspenseful sequences ever filmed.

See the image, and for extra credit identify who the actor is and what he has been doing more recently.

Comments:
Okay Wanderer, I'll be waiting for my babke...
Full Metal Jacket
Vincent D'Onofrio- Leonard Lawrence
Law and Order, criminal intent
(my kid's love this movie)

Goldstone, nice try, but sorry...Linderman was played by an actor named Adam Baldwin (not one of the Baldwin brothers). But I love My Bodyguard!
So here's a new challenge for you...What movie did Chris Makepeace first have a role in as a forlorn kid? Hints: SNL and a tasty Italian dish.

Yup goldstone, she's right - see the imdb page and scroll down to the cast. I wonder what film you're thinking of for D'Onofrio (who I love on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, until he had a nervous breakdown recently, for real).

Nice job Cruisin' Mom! I have to admit I googled Chris Makepeace because I didn't remember who he was. But Meatballs definitely came up! How did you remember that?!?

Yes movies are a nice respite from blogging about politics. It's also easier - you don't have to think as much. But Kubrick definitely shared his views about the Vietnam war through Full Metal Jacket. One of my "favorite" lines (though gruesome):

How can you shoot women and children?
Easy! Ya just don't lead 'em so much! Ain't war hell?

Other favorite quotes include basically any line by Gunnery Sergeant Hartman during basic training at Parris Island... (most too graphic to quote here, but simply awesome, so see for yourself!)

Wanderer...remember, I'm older than you! SNL started while I was in college, we lived for Sat. nite at 11:30. Bill Murray replaced Chevy Chase the following year...did Meatballs a few years later, so Bill Murray was really popular at the time.

CM - love Bill Murray. Stripes is one of my favorites.

Ball-and-chain - thanks for stopping by! Come every week - we have a different film every Saturday night.

goldstone - where DID you come up with My Bodyguard? Re: holocaust - if you were in Iran the question would be how old should a kid be before they deny the Holocaust? Actually - a good question - why not start a new post with what prompted your question? Might get more responses than burying it in the comments about a Vietnam movie...

Ball and Chain...come on by, but you will have to contend with me!
I love Bill Murray too, Stripes is classic.

Adam Baldwin is in one of my favorite shows--Firefly.

Yes Adam Baldwin, the only one of the Baldwin boys who isn't one of the Baldwin boys....(i.e. no relation to Alec, Daniel, William, or Stephen).
