Moral Compasses
Case in point, a recent shooting by the LAPD in the 'hood. Apparently a gangster had holed himself up and was shooting at some officers. In the gun battle that ensued, the criminal's daughter was unfortunately shot and killed by an LAPD bullet.

Obviously, this is a terrible tragedy.

What ensued was an almost riot, with people blaming the LAPD for a loose trigger, and racism. There is no doubt in my mind that there are racist cops in the LAPD. These elements were not expunged by the Rodney King Incident, Trial and subsequent Riots. They were not eliminated when Darryl Gates left his post as police chief, and they remained even when Bernard Parks, an African-American was chief. There are racist cops patrolling the streets as we speak.

What I haven't heard from the affected community is any sense of responsibility or outrage over the fact that it was this little baby's father who was a CRIMINAL was SHOOTING at the LAPD, and that he in fact had put his OWN DAUGHTER in harm's way. That precious little girl would not have been shot had her father not been a criminal in a shoot out with the police. Where is their moral compass? Do they honestly believe the LAPD would have shot that little girl for any other reason then that they were being shot at? How can anyone sit there with a straight face and blame anyone but this little girl's father for her death?
Comments:
Reading story after story after story I've yet to see more that a passing mention of the father's involvement. And, mind you, I have too many bad personal experiences with Die Polizei to not get on them but yet I don't foist the blame upon them. Who knows, maybe that's part of change. Perhaps one day the critics will have a different perspective.

The (fortunately dead) father had a long history of threatening his kids and his kids' mother (to whom he was not married). His family had called the police about him many times in the past. But now they're all up in arms about the police killing this peacful family man! He was also in the country illegally. I'm happy to volunteer to help pay for the LAPDs ammunition expenses for this incident.

GMU: unfortunately it seems that when it comes to issues related to race, people seem to lose their objectivity. Thanks for posting, and welcome to our blog!

Bean: always the generous benefactor for such causes!

And the father wasn't just holed up somewhere - he was out in the open, firing while holding up his baby as a freakin' shield!
